Business flexibility: the five keys to the success of cloud strategy

people who have experienced natural disasters know that once the situation begins to improve, we usually evaluate the specific situation and reflect on how to deal with the situation in other ways. We often think about how we could have prepared for a rainy day, deal with accidents, and imagine how to take the initiative to take precautions in the future

in general, the collaterals after interruption of orientation are not different. We should also always evaluate the network and be prepared for unexpected interruptions in the future. But unlike personal events, our response will affect the entire enterprise

in view of this, we must think about how networks can ensure that enterprises can still respond flexibly in the face of interruption. The goal of flexible network is to strategically implement network functions and help organizations have the ability to withstand and adapt to any interruption. As our latest "2021 global network trends report: special research on business elasticity" points out, we need to consider four key elements: employees, workplace, workload and operation and maintenance. Next, I will share some of my views on workloads, and also discuss the importance of a multi cloud strategy in deploying an appropriate security and agile infrastructure to support a variety of cloud services

in particular, we need to focus on the five key considerations for building a multi cloud strategy, which are closely related to business elasticity:

1, considering only the normal operation time is far from enough

some people may guess that network availability and reliability are the keys to building business elasticity. Although these KPIs are also important, they are only two influencing factors of the flexible network strategy. Elastic network is not only to create a network that is always available, but also to ensure that the network has agility, automation and intelligence to help organizations adapt to any changes in the future. For example, if an organization wants to migrate call centers to new regions, it needs to support the portability of workloads. This is not an interruption of the network, so you need to consider whether your architecture is flexible and agile enough to transfer the workload to the region and ensure secure access and compliance

2, application first network model

with the continuous development of business, applications and workloads on local and cloud platforms are increasingly showing distributed characteristics. What is more difficult is that the application team must comprehensively manage the existing environment composed of single applications and traditional local data centers, as well as the new environment composed of microservice applications, containers, SaaS and cloud SaaS. What does this have to do with collaterals? In fact, they are inextricably linked. In the latest IDC white paper, Brad casemore pointed out that

distributed applications have become the new focus of the network

since the network is the key channel of data transmission, we must have a deep understanding of how the network infrastructure ensures consistency, security and high performance, and can get the best experience no matter where the workload and users are located

3. Hybrid workload is the general trend in the future

one thing to keep in mind is that hybrid workload environment is the future development direction of many organizations. In the 2020 global network trends report, joy Pandey, vice president and chief technology officer of Cisco cloud platforms and solutions, said,

in the past few years, although many valuable workloads have begun to migrate to the public cloud, it is clear that this is not an alternative. This ability is even more important when enterprises try to adjust to the situation during business interruption. Network operation and maintenance personnel need to master the time and source of the problem, and determine whether the problem comes from the device itself, home or cafe network, access point, application, ISP or cloud provider, or park network. 5. The operation and maintenance strategy must keep pace with the times

a successful multi cloud strategy should not only realize the network modernization by using the latest automation and network state sensing functions provided by the intention based controller, but also ensure that the operation and maintenance mode can keep up with the pace of new technologies. IDC predicts that by 2023, 55% of enterprises will adopt a cloud centric model to replace the outdated operation and maintenance model, so as to better coordinate it operation and maintenance and public cloud operation and maintenance, promote organizational collaboration, and achieve better business results. The old isolated network management method will be unsustainable in the future
